Liam Manning believes MK Dons’ strong culture has been key behind their success so far.
Manning’s men head into the international break as the country’s top-performing side in 2022 with 39 points to their name since the turn of the year while their 12-game unbeaten run is the best across England’s top four leagues.
It’s form that has them sitting just four points behind the Sky Bet League One leaders with seven fixtures to go. The secret?
“We’re nowhere near the top of the league budget-wise but what we have got is clarity,” Manning said in an interview with the official EFL podcast this week.
“I think we have created a really strong culture at the club, with a terrific group of players that I can’t speak highly enough of.
“Since we’ve been in, they have been honest and hard-working and when you get that, you can improve.
“It’s been really enjoyable when you reflect and look back on it. It’s been intense and full on but there’s also been a lot of learning and a lot of enjoyable experiences, where I feel like we’ve really developed.
“If you’re clear on what’s important and what helps you perform and get results. I preach a lot around not getting too high, not getting too low and staying calm.
“It’s tough when you’re in an industry where you care so much but there needs to be an element of reassurance and calmness to stay on track.”
