Conor Coventry has been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for their upcoming 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier with Sweden.

Coventry, who has captained the side on the last nine occasions, will join up with his national team on Wednesday 23 March ahead of their fixture with Sweden in Boras on Tuesday 29 March.

As a result, the midfielder is set to miss MK Dons' Sky Bet League One fixture with Crewe Alexandra which is due to take place on Saturday 26 March. He is currently the only MK Dons player who has been selected for interational duty - EFL clubs need three international call-ups in order for a postponement to be considered.

Ireland currently sit third in Qualifying Group F, four points behind Sweden, who currently top the table. The nine group winners and the best runners-up qualify directly for the final tournament while the remaining eight runners-up will advance to a play-off.

Coventry has made 22 appearances for Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level while has 38 caps to his name across all age groups.
