Dennis becomes a Don

Striker arrives on a permanent deal from Norwich City...

4 June 2022

MK Dons have secured the signing of Norwich City striker Matt Dennis for an undisclosed fee.

Dennis, 20, arrives at Stadium MK as the Club’s first signing ahead of the 2022/23 season. The move will become official when the transfer window opens on June 10.

The former Arsenal youngster finished the 2020/21 campaign as Norwich Under-23s’ top goalscorer before netting eight goals in 16 starts while on loan at Southend United last season.

“I can’t wait to get started,” Dennis told iFollow MK Dons after completing a medical at Stadium MK and putting pen to paper.

“I’ve spoken to the manager and he told me this is an opportunity for me. I’ll be looking to learn as much as I can from him and the other players here."

He added: “I am a fast, powerful forward who likes to get in behind, create chances and hopefully score some goals.”

Dennis began his career with Arsenal before joining Norwich City ahead of the 2019/20 season. He quickly became a regular for the Canaries at Under-23s level, initially as a wide player, before successfully converting into a striker.

He finished the 2020/21 campaign as Norwich’s top marksmen at youth level, finding the net seven times and providing three assists, including two goals in the Papa John’s Trophy competition against Plymouth Argyle and Newport County.

Dennis joined National League outfit Southend United on loan in August last year and, in his first season at senior level, totalled eight goals in 29 appearances, which featured a match-winning brace in the Shrimpers’ 2-1 win over Barnet at Roots Hall in February.

Sporting Director Liam Sweeting said: "We are delighted to welcome Matt to the club as our first signing of the summer window.

“His athleticism, directness and quality on loan at Southend alerted many clubs and I’m delighted he and his family have chosen MK Dons as the best fit for him to develop further.

“Matt joins a young dressing room within a culture of development, opportunity and ambition and l look forward to seeing him play for MK Dons very soon.”

Head Coach Liam Manning added: “Matt is a player with great potential, who has excellent physical attributes and also some exciting technical qualities, which you can see from some of the goals he has scored.

“This move presents a real opportunity for him to make the step up to League One level after a promising season in the National League, and we are very much looking forward to working with him, starting this summer.”
