MK Dons Women are thrilled to announce that Lucy Wood has agreed to return to the Club on loan from Leicester City Women.

The exciting 18-year-old attacker, who will spend the 2022/23 campaign at Stadium MK, becomes the Dons’ first summer signing of the window.

Initially joining the club in January 2022, Wood made 11 starts and one substitute appearance last season and had a big impact on the outcome of the season, scoring four goals and assisting a further four.

Wood enjoyed some fine moments in her debut senior season, notably scoring a last-minute winner against Chichester City as well as a brace against Keynsham Town on the last day of the season.

On re-signing for the Club, Wood said: “I am so excited to continue my journey with Dons. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to start my senior career and I truly believe that Dons is the best place for me to continue developing into the senior game.

“The players, staff and everyone involved at the club have been amazing ever since the moment I joined here. I am so grateful for the opportunity given to me by the Club, and I can’t wait to carry on for another season.”

MK Dons Women’s Head of Football & Performance Jack Sharp told mkdons.com: “As soon as the season finished, one of our initial priorities was to secure the services of Lucy for next season

“The impact she had in her first 12 games of senior football was excellent and testament to her application and bravery to place herself in our environment. With a full pre-season programme to learn our principles and methodologies, we are excited to see what Lucy can achieve this season.

“Our thanks go to our friends at Leicester City Women, who have placed trust in us again to enhance Lucy's development. Lots of credit also to go to the team behind the scenes for creating an environment where WSL clubs are seeing the benefits of their players representing MK Dons.”

Head Coach Charlie Bill added: “We are so pleased to have Lucy back in our setup for next season and, I must say, Leicester have been really supportive during the whole process.

“In her short spell with us last season, we saw Lucy play such a huge role in keeping us in this league, having eight goal involvements in her 11 starts.

“She is such a good character both on and off the pitch and a player who is always looking to take risks in possession. She has been so invested in everything we are doing here and we can't wait to work with her again this season.”
