Holland: Two weeks on the training pitch

Nathan Holland shared his thoughts following a league defeat at Home Park…

4 January 2023

Goal-scorer Nathan Holland shared his post-match thoughts following a 3-1 defeat to top-of-the-table side, Plymouth Argyle. As well as looking ahead to the next two weeks on the training pitch.

Argyle opened the scoring early on, James Wilson converted from close-range following a set-piece from the hosts in the fourth minute. 15 minutes on from the first goal, Holland equalised with an accurate finish into the side netting. However, Plymouth’s impressive home record increased, and they currently remain with just one Sky Bet League One loss at Home Park this season.

“It's a nice feeling to score, but it would obviously have been better to have backed it up with a win.” The winger said after the 3-1 defeat. “Fine margins and really important moments cost us, but that's why they're top of the league.

“We had plenty of chances, and the goals we conceded we could have dealt with better. That's the business end of football and something we have to improve on. We pushed the league leaders in parts of the game, we had chances, and there are positives that we can take.

“It's little things we need to work on. I don't want to keep saying the same things, but we have to work hard over the next few weeks and be as positive as we can.”

Since taking charge of the team, Mark Jackson has claimed one victory against Forest Green Rovers and suffered two losses against teams within the top ten of the league table. All these fixtures have been played within seven days.

Now, MK Dons have two weeks to prepare for their next game on January 14, which will be a league clash against Lincoln City at Stadium MK. When asked about the arrival of Jackson, as well as the importance of training time with the new Head Coach, Holland had this to say:

“He’s been here just over a week, and he’s already had three games, that’s not easy for any Head Coach or manager. He’s been really positive and spotted some good things, which we can hopefully improve on in the next few weeks.

“When a new manager comes in, it’s a fresh start for everyone. Players have a chance to impress, and it gives everyone an eagerness to work hard. With no games for the next two weeks, it’ll be important for the gaffer to implement his own way of doing things and get his message across, which I’m sure he will because he has been really good with us so far.”

The number 11 finished his interview by looking ahead into the new year. “I’ll keep on working hard - I want to continue to help the team more. Hopefully, we can pick up more points as we progress through the new year.”
