Don Deal: Sullay Kaikai signs for MK Dons

Winger becomes the Club's fourth arrival in the January Transfer Window...

MK Dons have completed the signing of winger Sullay Kaikai on a deal until the end of the season.

Kaikai, 27, moves to Stadium MK after leaving Wycombe Wanderers and becomes the fourth signing of the January Transfer Window, following the additions of Jonathan Leko, Max Dean and Paris Maghoma.

A Sierra Leone international, Kaikai began his career with Crystal Palace and has so far totalled 214 career appearances, scored 37 goals and provided 31 assists. The tricky winger has also won promotion from Sky Bet League One during his time with Blackpool.

“I’m delighted to be here,” Kaikai said in an exclusive first interview with iFollow MK Dons. “This is a great club with a great style of play which attracts players to come here. I’m just excited now to get started and hopefully I can hit the ground running.

“When I knew MK Dons were interested, it was something I felt that suited me. I am a player who likes to get into good areas and express myself and I know that fits in with what the Head Coach wants us to do.

“I want to get back to enjoying my football and I’m thankful that MK Dons have given me the opportunity to do that. Now it’s about getting my head down and working hard.”

Born in Southwark to parents hailing from Sierra Leone, Kaikai came through the youth system at Crystal Palace and made his senior debut for the Eagles in September 2014 as a substitute in their EFL Cup tie with Newcastle United at Selhurst Park.

Kaikai made a total of 11 appearances during his time with Palace, while also enjoying loan spells at Crawley Town, Cambridge United, Shrewsbury Town, Brentford and Charlton Athletic. He was most prolific with Salop, netting 12 goals and providing six assists in 29 games.

Leaving Southwest London in January 2019, Kaikai joined NAC Breda and spent six months in the Netherlands before returning to England and signing with Blackpool that summer. He spent two seasons at Bloomfield Road, contributing to 26 goals in 68 appearances for the Tangerines and helping them win promotion to the Sky Bet Championship via the playoffs.

Kaikai joined Wycombe Wanderers in July 2021, following the expiry of his Blackpool contract and has been with the Chairboys for the past 18 months, racking up 32 more senior games.

Sporting Director Liam Sweeting said: “Sullay is a player I have known since my time at Crystal Palace and I have followed his journey closely ever since. He is someone who has real quality in the final third and his production at this level, particularly during Blackpool’s promotion-winning season, is evidence of that.

"He joins on a short term deal after leaving Wycombe Wanderers and I know he is fully committed to getting helping us improve on our current league position between now and the end of the season and expressing himself in Mark Jackson’s system.”

Head Coach Mark Jackson added: “We would like to welcome Sullay to the Club. He’s a player who has been high on our priority list during this transfer window and we’ve done a lot of work on him.

“He’s a player we believe can be a really good fit in what we want to do, in an out of possession and he will bring real attacking impetus to our game. I am looking forward to working with him and seeing him out on the pitch soon.”
