Defender reflects on New Year's Day draw with Gillingham...

3 January 2022

While disappointed not to walk away with all three points on New Year’s Day, Peter Kioso says MK Dons won’t let it affect their confidence moving forwards.

The Dons were held to only their third league shutout of the season as they drew 0-0 with Gillingham at Stadium MK – a result which keeps them four points adrift of the top six in Sky Bet League One.

Kioso & Co dominated the contest and, on another day, could have enjoyed a comfortable win which is the why the defender insists he and his teammates won’t take too much negativity from the afternoon.

“We're disappointed because we know we deserved the three points with the chances we created,” Kioso told iFollow MK Dons. “On another day, the boys put those away but it was one of those days

“In fairness to Gillingham, they made everything harder for us. They made us work and made us grind.

“Skip reminded us afterwards that we played away against Shrewsbury (Town) and dominated and ended up losing and coming away with nothing, but today we got a point so we have to be happy with that.

“At the end of the day, though, we want to win every game - that's the sort of team we are. We felt we deserved them all but it's a point on the board and we know what we need to work on ahead of the next game.”

The Dons switch focus to the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday evening when they take on Charlton Athletic at The Valley. Kioso, who has only featured in once in this season’s competition, says it’s a game that the team wants to win.

“Some people outside the club might not look at it like it's very important but we all think it is,” he commented.

“It's a game we all want to win and we certainly won't go into it thinking it's not as important as the league.”
