Sandford: It's a dream come true

Ronnie Sandford spoke to iFollow MK Dons after signing his first professional contract with the club…

Ronnie Sandford signed his first professional contract with MK Dons, the goalkeeper joined the club at nine years of age, and he shared his delight in an interview with iFollow MK Dons.

Sandford joined the Dons at the age of nine, after he had been invited to train with them. Ever since then, he has trained with the club and worked his way through the years, to earn his first pro contract as a Don.

The goalkeeper expressed that signing the contract was a ‘dream come true’ and he is ‘excited to extend his stay’. When he was asked about about signing the first professional contract of his career, Sandford replied: “I’m Buzzing.

“I’ve been at this club since I was nine years old, so to sign my first professional contract is a dream come true. Liam Sweeting, Liam Manning, and Lewis Price called me to a meeting after training, and when they offered me the contract, I couldn’t hide my smile.

“I’ve always aspired to sign my first professional contract with MK Dons, so to finally be able to is a dream come true. It means a lot to me, but my mindset doesn’t change, I’m here to work hard and I won’t take my foot off the gas.”

The young goalkeeper has gained experience through training and travelling with the first team. When questioned about the benefits of that opportunity, Sandford said:

“Training with the first team has matured me as much as a person as it has a player. Working with senior keepers such as Franco Ravizolli, Jamie Cumming, Andy Fisher, and Laurie Walker has benefitted me so much.

“Lewis Price (MK Dons’ GK Coach) has helped me improve massively, I still have a long way to go but I owe Pricey huge credit for how much he has helped me develop.”

The interview then shifted from the ‘excitement’ of signing his first contract, to what lays ahead for the newly signed goalie. When questioned about the next steps of his career, Sandford had this to say: “I’m looking to go on loan this season.

“Last year I got loads of experience from travelling with the first team, but this season I’m looking for game time, which will Hopefully help develop my game further.

“Every bit of work I do is preparing me for that starting line-up position, my ultimate goal is to make my senior debut for MK Dons, and If that ever happens it will be an amazing and surreal moment.”
