Manning: We can be even better

Head Coach Liam Manning reflects on his side's 4-0 win over Morecambe...

28 August 2022

Liam Manning believes his MK Dons side can perform even better than they did in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Morecambe.

Manning’s Dons produced a brilliant away display at the Mazuma Stadium, with two goals in each half securing a third win in four across all competitions and a second successive away triumph.

While pleased with the dominant performance and result, the MK Dons Head Coach still feels there is much more to come from his side.

“It was a good performance,” Manning said in his post-match press conference. “There were really positive elements and we carried a real threat throughout which is something that has progressively got better. We showed really good quality with the goals as well.

“Yet, speaking with the lads afterwards, we've all said we can be better than that. By no means are we there yet and there is still work to do, we want to keep improving.

"I'm really happy for the players. It has been a really tough start with the transition we’ve had and the games we’ve had but it’s what we’ve preached a lot - never too high and never too low.”

Will Grigg got MK Dons up and running with a brace inside the opening 35 minutes – his first two goals since returning to Stadium MK this summer, coming on the day he celebrated his 400th career league appearance.

“They're both typical Griggy goals, one's he thrives off,” Manning said of his number nine. “We worked ourselves into those good areas to be able to get it to him and the quality in the crosses was terrific, as were the finishes.

“It will do him the world of good, because it has been really stop-start for him since signing. He's been frustrated with that but he was really good in that first half.”

Here is what else Liam Manning had to say in his post-match press conference…

On Conor Grant…
“Conor did really well today and he got his goal. He has huge potential and we have to be patient with him, but you saw the quality he has.”
