Jack Davies and Lewis Johnson made their first starts for Concord Rangers on Saturday, helping the Beach Boys to a 1-0 victory over Taunton.
Davies and Johnson both made their debuts off the bench in Concord Rangers’ opening game of the season but were handed starts by manager Chris Search for this past weekend’s game in Canvey Island.
Johnson made a bright start, hitting the side netting with an effort on 30 minutes before being brought down in the box two minutes later – earning the Beach Boys a penalty which was converted by Ben Williamson.
That goal proved the difference for Concord Rangers who, thanks to Davies and his defensive teammates, kept a clean sheet in order to see out the 1-0 win. Johnson did go close to doubling the advantage but dragged his effort narrowly wide.
Next up for Davies and Johnson is a home fixture with Dulwich Hamlet this Tuesday evening at Thames Road.
Meanwhile, Ronnie Sandford made his third start for Hertford Town in their Southern League Division One Central opener with Didcot Town, though they were beaten 5-3 at Hertingfordbury Park.
