Grigg: Feeling confident

Striker reflects on his two-goal performance against Morecambe...

29 August 2022

Will Grigg opened his MK Dons account for a third time on Saturday and said afterwards that he is certainly feeling the love being back at Stadium MK.

Grigg netted a first-half brace to help the Dons on their way to a 4-0 victory over Morecambe at the Mazuma Stadium - his first two goals since returning to the Club and enough to move him level with Chuks Aneke for seventh all-time for league goals scored by an MK Dons player.

Speaking afterwards, the 31-year-old discussed being back at Stadium MK and how he is benefitting from being at a Club close to his heart and where he is adored by the supporters.

“It’s been a tough couple of years but I have never had any doubts about my ability,” Grigg told the media following Saturday’s win in Lancashire.

“I am feeling good and I am feeling confident at Club that I love and a Club that love me too. It’s one of the reasons I signed back here, because I’ve always enjoyed my football here.

“Those goals pretty much sum up the goals I’ve scored in my career – they are goals that I pride myself on.

“Credit to the lads for getting in the positions and providing the chances for me. The deliveries were perfect and I just have the easy bit of putting them away!”

Saturday’s win was the Dons’ third in four games, with Liam Manning’s men certainly starting to find their form after a tricky start to the 2022/23 campaign.

On the performance, Grigg said: “It was fantastic from start to finish, in what was a high-pressure game for us, coming here having had a difficult start.

“It was a professional performance. This is by no means an easy place to come to and they will definitely take a lot of points off teams this season, so to be as professional is a real positive.

“But, the first thing the gaffer said in the changing rooms, after well done, was that we still have so much to improve on and we agree – we can be even better.”

The striker added: “Hopefully this can give everyone a boost and it can be the start of what we want to be about going forward.”

Grigg was replaced at half-time by Matthew Dennis, who got on the scoresheet himself to make it 4-0. Delighted to see his fellow forward find the net, Grigg said: “ He’s a great lad, who works really hard.

“We’re definitely not similar players! His raw athleticism and pace are going to cause some real problems for defenders. His finish today was a good one and he showed he’s got real talent. I’m pleased for him.”
