Sandford and Stirland both participated in the Gwen and Jim Mann academy showcase match, they lifted the trophy after overcoming the Reds in a penalty shootout.
The two young Don’s stars shared their thoughts after the victory, which they both played crucial parts in. When asked about the performance the number one replied:
“It’s a good feeling to make some big saves, especially on an occasion like today. Liverpool had quality, but I felt like all the boys stepped up to the occasion. we weren’t over excited, we were just focused on our game,”
“It was great, I wanted to keep the goals to a minimum and I had that passion within me. We failed seeing the game out, but we made up for it after the penalty shootout”
Following this, the goalkeeper was then questioned about the match experience, Sandford responded: “It was a great game to play in.
“It’s great for the team, it’s a great result, and it’s a great experience for all the boys in there.
Over 1,000 fans attended the academy challenge match, to support the team at Stadium MK. When asked about the support, Stirland said: “the fans were incredible
“Constantly cheering us on and chanting, it was an great atmosphere, they were unbelievable today”
