Parrott: Only thing on my mind

Striker reflects on stunning leveller against AFC Wimbledon...

12 April 2022

Troy Parrott says he only had one thing on his mind when Dean Lewington’s cross looped towards him at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

With nine minutes to play, and MK Dons trailing 1-0 to AFC Wimbledon, Lewington sent a cross over to the far post where an unmarked Parrott was waiting to strike.

The Republic of Ireland international saw his name in lights and didn’t pass up the opportunity, firing an unstoppable volley past the AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper and into the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.

“When I saw it come across, there was only one thing on my mind,” Parrott told iFollow MK Dons afterwards.

“I had a feeling he would put it out to me, to be honest! We have a bit of a connection in terms of that.

“I just want to score goals and that’s what I want to keep doing between now and the end of the season.”

Parrott’s goal earned the Dons a point – one which extended their unbeaten run to 15 games and helped set a new Club record for away matches without defeat.

Reflecting on the game and result, the Tottenham Hotspur loanee commented: “It was a tough game for us, right from the very start. Their fans were on our backs and they were up for it.

“It is tough for us on the pitch to keep strong mentally, trying to break them down when they put that many men behind the ball. As we’ve shown, we always believe we will get a chance and it’s good that we took it.”

Parrott added: “A point isn’t the worst result in the world so we will take it and move on.

“We want to take things game by game but we want to win every game between now and the end of the season so that’s what we will be focusing on.”

It was good to get the goal but we want to win every game.
