Bitting’s boys lifted the academy challenge trophy, after the match against Liverpool concluded in MK Dons triumphing in a penalty shootout. The head coach was pleased with the honour and the experience gained from the fixture.

Liverpool’s academy currently sits second in the U-18 Premier League North, they were able to bring the game back to an equal score line twice, and even grasped the lead early in the fixture. When questioned about the thrilling match, Bitting said:

“It was an enjoyable one, I know the boys enjoyed it. It was great to have both teams come in and showcase what they’re about.

“Liverpool caused problems tactically and the way they looked at play, but our boys looked threatening going forward and put in great performances behind the ball.

“There was a lot of learning from today and loads of excitement, I’m really pleased with how today turned out.”

The young Don’s stars worked hard for their victory and demonstrated great resilience, so that they could reap the rewards. When questioned about the team performance, the experienced coach replied: “I’m really pleased with them.

“The fact that a variety of people scored goals today was excellent, and a lot of players behind the ball did really well today as well.

“It’s really important that the boys understand their roles, responsibilities, and the accountability that they have within the team.

“They had to see out the game and deal with penalties, alongside the pressure which comes along with that, it’s another great learning experience and it’s brilliant for their development.”
