Manning: We must be more clinical

Head Coach Liam Manning reflects on his side's defeat to Shrewsbury Town...

Liam Manning has called on his MK Dons to be more clinical, after they failed to take advantage of their dominance in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Shrewsbury Town.

Despite a controlling performance, Manning’s side fell to defeat at the Montgomery Waters Meadow – much to the frustration of the Head Coach, who pointed to the Dons’ lack of cutting edge in front of goal as the main factor behind the result.

“It was another frustrating afternoon,” he said in his post-match press conference.

“We had more shots, more final third entries and more crosses but it then comes down to quality and we didn't have it enough today or at Donny (Doncaster Rovers).

“We worked the ball into the mid-attacking third well and we had two or three quality chances you'd expect to score from - we just have to make sure we're more clinical.”

Saturday’s loss was the Dons’ second on the bounce but Manning isn’t getting too downbeat and remains confident his side, who remain sixth in the Sky Bet League One table, are on the right track.

“It was never going to be a smooth ride this season,” he said. “There was a lot of hype when we won a few games but we knew we were always going to lose a couple of games.

“We still have a lot of work to do and still things for us to get better at. That's the challenge for them to get better as players. We've had a couple of tough results now so let's see how we respond as a group - we have to stick together, bounce back and get ready for Tuesday.

“We’ll win more games than we'll lose if we to continue produce the numbers we produce and continue to play like that. If we tweak the right things I have no doubts we'll get back to winning ways.”
