Scott Twine was happy with MK Dons’ ruthlessness in their 4-1 victory over Cambridge United.
The Dons made it three league wins in four games courtesy of a dominant Stadium MK success over the U’s on Saturday.
Most of the damage was done inside of the first 45 minutes thanks, largely, to Twine, who scored twice and provided an assist for Max Watters as Liam Manning’s men built up a three-goal half-time lead.
Twine set up Watters again in the second as the Dons cruised to a 4-1 win – one which lifts them up to fifth in the Sky Bet League One table and within six points of the automatic promotion places.
“I'm delighted with the three points,” Twine said in his post-match interview with iFollow MK Dons. “
“In the first half we were ruthless, dangerous, passed quickly and exploited space in behind. It was the best 45 minutes we've had this season and we deserved to go in 3-0 up - the game was almost done then.
“We could have been better in the second half. We wanted to dominate the game more, score a few more goals too and that didn't come. We're not very happy with the second half, but the win is the most important thing.”
On his two goals and two assists, including a fourth direct free-kick of the season, Twine added: “I know Max (Watters) is rapid so I knew I’d have to sprint as fast as I can to catch up with him in the box. If he keeps making those runs, I'll get more goals inside the box.
“I told him I was going to give him an assist today and he said he wanted two, so we had a little joke about that afterwards! We've spoken about playing him in behind a lot recently because he makes those great runs and his finishing is unbelievable too. He makes my life so easy when he makes runs in behind like he does.
“(The free-kick) is my perfect range – I was so confident over it because I practice those a lot. I was happy to score another one!”
