Twine: Only ourselves to blame

MK Dons' number nine reflects on Tuesday's defeat to Sheffield Wednesday...

25 November 2021

Scott Twine admits MK Dons didn’t do enough to warrant holding onto their lead at Hillsborough Stadium.

It was Twine’s stunning strike that had the Dons in front against Sheffield Wednesday, until two late goals saw the home side snatch all three points and condemn Liam Manning’s men to their first defeat in four matches.

Despite being so close to securing, at least, a point, Twine was honest in his assessment of the team’s performance in his post-match interview with iFollow MK Dons.

“I don't think we were good enough,” the MK Dons number nine said. “As soon as we scored, we sat off and let them play and invited the pressure - we deserved to lose that game.

“We needed to pass the ball more, look forward, look dangerous and threaten. When we stopped that, it got their crowd up and it gave them a boost, and we ended up conceded two at the end which is gutting.

“We’re so frustrated with ourselves. We were in a good position but we just stopped doing what we're good at and we tried to be a team we're not. When we get the ball down, there isn't a better team in the league at what we do.

“We're a young team and we will keep learning from each game - this is one of them. If we get in a position like this again, we'll play differently and play the stuff which got us in the lead.”

MK Dons don’t have any time to dwell on Tuesday’s result, with a long trip to Morecambe coming up this weekend. Twine knows that three points at the Mazuma Stadium would go a long way to making up for the midweek defeat.

“If we win Saturday, it makes today seem a lot better than it feels now. It will boost us a lot.”
