Manning: Perfect response

Head Coach Liam Manning reflects on his side's victory over Morecambe...

28 November 2021

Liam Manning was pleased with the way in which his side responded to their midweek setback, after they returned to winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Morecambe.

Manning’s men scored two goals in each half to see of the Shrimps at the Mazuma Stadium and climb back into the Sky Bet League One play-off places, having dropped out of the top six on Tuesday.

“We spoke a lot in the week about how we can get back to being us and our identity and how we want to pay,” Manning said in his post-match press conference. “It's a huge credit to the guys with how they responded.

“It was a great reaction in terms of both the result and style. We played some really good football at times and, when we were ahead, we managed the game much better than in previous weeks.

“I'm delighted for the lads - this performance is down to them. You could go through the whole team and pick out great performances - everyone was a seven or an eight.”

Here is what else Manning had to say in his post-match press conference…

On keeping a clean sheet…
“Doing that more often has to be an objective of ours - being difficult to beat, not giving up chances. Credit to the guys, they defended when they had to. Defensively, I think we took care of the ball better, and that was a big thing for us in the second half, especially, to get back on top.”

On Harry Darling’s goal…
“Harry is always a threat and he's scored a few now! I'm not sure about the celebration, though!”

On Matt O’Riley’s performance…
“He has real quality, so it's important for us to get him into those areas to make an impact and score even more goals. The nice thing is, he can drop deep and play in the build-up and then go and do that too.”

On Mo Eisa getting a goal…
“I've always said Mo will score goals at this level, and the good thing about having both him and Max (Watters) is they are pushing each other on. If you come in, you've got to take that opportunity and grasp it like what Mo did today - he worked hard for the team and took his goal well.”
