MK Dons SET announce new U18s development squad

MK Dons SET are delighted to announce a new U18’s development squad for the 2021/22 season.

The aim of the boys U18’s development squad (including U17s) is to allow current U16’s a pathway into U18s and adult football, this will allow players to continue developing under a professional football clubs philosophy. Supporting aspiring footballers on the field to get opportunities to showcase their talent to professional and semi-professional clubs.

This season (2020/21) there have been 23 MK Dons SET players who have received opportunities with the club’s academy and other professional clubs. This programme ensures players receive a high-quality football education delivered by UEFA qualified coaches.

The programme aims to provide experiences that allows a player to explore additional education pathways. Including Sporting qualifications, University scholarships and employability support.

The U18s development squad will consist of two weekly training sessions in the evening and league games on a Saturday morning, participating in the U18’s Junior Premier League.

Advanced Centre Manager James Gibb had the following to say on the introduction of the new U18s development squad, “This is a very exciting programme which provides young footballers with the opportunity to showcase their ability beyond U16s football.

"I believe it’s vital to continue to support players’ holistic development through the high-quality training sessions and competitive games programme which will help the players to achieve their goals”.
