MK Dons know 19 of their 23 Sky Bet League One opponents for the 2021/22 season, following the final weekend of regular-season EFL football.
The League One campaign concluded on Sunday lunchtime, where only the final play-off place was left to be determined.
Hull City and Peterborough United had already sealed promotion to the Championship prior to the weekend while Rochdale, Northampton Town, Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers had their relegations to League Two confirmed too.
Blackpool, Sunderland and Lincoln City were also already assured of a top-six finish, leaving Portsmouth, Oxford United and Charlton Athletic to battle it out for the final play-off spot on Sunday – and it was the U’s who took it, thanks to a 4-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.
That means the Dons will face Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic in 2021/22, along with the other XX encumbent League One sides and the six who have joined the division from the Championship and League Two.
Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Wycombe Wanderers were the three teams relegated from the second tier, while Cheltenham Town, Cambridge United and Bolton Wanderers were promoted from the fourth tier – the former as champions.
The League One line-up will be confirmed later this month following the completion of the League One and Two Play-Offs.
In League Two, Morecambe will face Tranmere Rovers while Newport County take on Forest Green Rovers. In League One, Oxford United face Blackpool and Lincoln City do battle with Sunderland.
