Matty praises character and belief

Sorinola reflects on Man of the Match performance...

15 March 2021

Matthew Sorinola has paid tribute to the intangible characteristics MK Dons displayed in Saturday’s win over Accrington Stanley.

Russell Martin’s side netted a 92nd-minute winner to secure three points against promotion-chasing Accrington Stanley.

The Dons were dealt a blow as Martin’s side conceded twice within two minutes as Accrington came from 2-0 down to seemingly earn a point.

Sorinola & Co, however, stuck to their principles before scoring a winner in the dying embers of Saturday’s clash. The young defender was full of praise for the way the Dons retained possession when it could’ve been easy to go direct.

“We did make hard work of it, we showed great character to come back to get the last goal late in the game.

“We always have great character and belief, we’ve been on a tough run of late, but we’ve shown we don’t give up until the last minute no matter the circumstances.

“We’ll never change the way we play, we’re always going to stick to our game and play our way. We showed today that it worked and we’re never going to change.”

Sorinola was named Man of the Match in a game he registered a hat-trick of assists. The 20-year-old showed his quality with all three of his pinpoint crosses causing trouble for Accrington’s defence.

Sorinola highlighted both Cameron Jerome and Matt O’Riley after their goals helped MK Dons earn all three points, nothing the quality of Jerome makes his job easier.

“Cammy knows where to be all the time, for me I’ve got to put it in the area, and I know he’ll be there. I’m happy he scored two goals today and were grateful for his goals.

“I saw there were bodies in the box, I just put it into an area where Matt and Harry Darling were and we scored from it. Thankfully, they put it home.

“Matt is quite tall so he’s going to score headers. He’s shown he’s not only good with the ball at his feet – but with his head too.”
