Louis Thompson believes MK Dons can still find another gear as they look to build upon a successful week.
In the space of seven days, Russell Martin’s side picked up nine points with wins over Accrington Stanley, Plymouth Argyle and Burton Albion respectively. The Dons netted seven goals across the three games as they climbed up the Sky Bet League One table.
Thompson, however, feels the Dons can’t rest on their laurels and should use their success at a platform for the rest of the season and beyond. The 26-year-old also feels it’s important not to get carried away with the recent form and take the season one game at a time.
“We’ve always maintained that we are taking each game as it comes – that’s the process here,” Thompson told iFollow MK Dons. “The management and the board are trying to build something, the ball is in motion and it’s up to us as players to focus on what we are doing, controlling games, and trying to win games whilst doing that. That also means setting our stool out for next season and taking each game as it comes.
“We’re intent on improving with every game and it’s a relentless pursuit of perfection that we are trying to achieve.
“We’ve looked at every game this season as an opportunity to win – Doncaster is no different. It’s an important game for us, not only because we are on a winning run, but we also want to implement what we work on during the week. We haven’t had a full week of training for a long time, it’s been welcomed rest and I’m sure everyone will be raring to go come Saturday.”
The last time Martin’s side had a full week of training was the penultimate week of February. It’s also just the third week of 2021 that MK Dons haven’t had a midweek fixture, a luxury Thompson knows the Dons have to take full advantage of.
It’s important to get this training week into the players, not only in lads that are starting but those out of the team as well. You can fall in between that period where you’re preparing for a game and recovering for the previous one.
“It’s tough playing Saturday to Tuesday, especially for those playing 90-minutes, but it’s important we all pull together and train well this week to put our game plan into action.”
