Lewie: Keep evolving and improving

Skipper calls on improvement not change as Dons bid to turn around their form..

7 March 2021

Dean Lewington has called on MK Dons to 'improve' and not 'change' as they bid to bounce back from a disappointing run of results.

The Dons were beaten 3-0 by Wigan Athletic on Saturday for their third defeat in four matches.

Lewington doesn’t believe straying from the Club’s philosophy will do anything to reverse the recent form but, instead, deems improvement as the right way to go in order to rediscover the formula that saw them win eight games from 11 at the turn of the year.

“We just have to get better at what we're doing,” Lewington said in his post-match interview with iFollow MK Dons.

“The last couple of weeks haven’t been good enough, there's no use hiding from it. It’s another three goals shipped and I don't care who you're playing against - you cannot concede three goals.

“We have the potential to be a good team and the nucleus is certainly there, as is the idea of what we want to do. We’ve all seen, at times, how good it can be, but we have to keep evolving and improving.

“The way we play means every team will have 11 men behind the ball. That means we have to work harder to break teams down and get through their lines. We have to get better at finding ways, at times, to play other teams who press the way they do.

“Then, when we lose the ball, we're sometimes lighter at the back and we have to do better in those moments.”

He continued: “The work never stops. We’re always trying to improve and to look at what's wrong. Every team will have highs and lows in a season - we had that high recently and now we are in the complete opposite.

“We won't blame anyone, we're all culpable. We all need to be better, pick better chances and make better passes and maybe be a bit more bolder in the final third.”
