Milton Keynes Dons are delighted to announce the signing of sought-after attacking midfielder Scott Twine.

Twine, 21, will move to Stadium MK on a long-term deal once his contract with Swindon Town expires at the end of this month.

As an out of contract under-24 player, Swindon Town are due compensation and the two clubs are currently in dialogue regarding an appropriate settlement.

Twine enjoyed a breakout 2020/21 campaign, scoring a combined 14 goals and providing 10 assists for the Robins and Newport County, whom he spent time with on loan.

Nine of his 14 goals were scored from outside the box, while he also led Sky Bet League Two in big chances created per game and ranked second for shots per match.

“I'm over the moon,” Twine told iFollow MK Dons in his first exclusive interview with the Football Club. “I'm an MK Dons player and I couldn't be happier.

“There were a few clubs interested but after I spoke to the Gaffer, he sold it to me. From that day, I couldn't wait to sign and get it sorted.

“I wanted to come here and play football the way we do, and I want to bring lots of goals and assists.”

He added: “This is a club that is only going in one direction and that's up. The stadium is state of the art and to think I'm going to be playing here every week – I just can't wait!”

Sporting Director Liam Sweeting said: “We are delighted to have Scott on board. He is one of the most exciting young talents in the EFL and was our first-choice target in his position going into the summer.

“What’s even more exciting is that we were also his first-choice option – he completely buys into what we want to do here at MK Dons and he is eager to work and develop under our management team.

“I must say a huge thank you to both his representatives and the Chairman for allowing us to get this deal done smoothly and in advance of pre-season.”

Manager Russell Martin added: “It is a big signing for us – not only because of the ability he possesses but because of how he suits our style of play. Credit to Liam and the Chairman for making this deal happen because it is an exciting deal for all of us.

“He plays in a number of different positions and you can just see the quality he has with the type of goals he scored last season, as well as the assists he made. Character is also important and he has that – he works extremely hard out of possession.

“He was wanted by a number of clubs but we’ve been able to act quickly in bringing him into the Club. He’s desperate to be here and I know he’s very excited to get going - we’re just as excited to have him here!”

Born in Swindon, Twine progressed through the youth ranks at his hometown club before signing professional terms in March 2017. He made his senior debut later in the 2016/17 season as a second-half substitute in a Sky Bet League One fixture with Charlton Athletic.

The midfielder made 33 appearances for the Robins across the next three seasons, scoring twice. He also spent time on loan at Chippenham Town and League of Ireland side Waterford, scoring 11 goals in 24 games across two spells with the former.

Twine joined Newport County on loan for the start of the 2020/21 season and impressed during his time at Rodney Parade, contributing to 13 goals in 24 outings for the Exiles, as well as scooping the League Two Goal of the Month Award for October, before returning to his parent club in January 2021.

Twine continued his good form in the final 29 games of the Robins’ Sky Bet League One campaign, finding the net seven times while also providing three assists.
