Jack: First year a big learning curve

18 June 2021

Jack Davies feels his first season as a professional footballer has taught him a number of valuable lessons that will only aid him in his development.

The Milton Keynes born defender joined the Club at 10-years-old, and put pen-to-paper on a professional deal at Stadium MK in August 2020. Since then, the Academy Graduate has featured four times in the Papa John’s Trophy and made his EFL Debut against Peterborough United.

Davies didn’t set himself any unrealistic expectations at the start of the season and treated any opportunity in the first-team as a chance to impress the Management Staff. The 18-year-old also says he wanted to be a sponge in order to gain knowledge from the more experienced players.

“I think my aim was to be training every day with the first team and improving,” Davies told iFollow MK Dons. “I wanted to learn from Russ and the other players, that’s from the training ground, to analysis, to watching games and travelling.

“I’ve been really fortunate to have been on the bench a few times this season and staying on away games. I’ve made a few appearances on the way, I feel I’ve got a lot out of it, and it’s been a really positive season.

“You see these players with great careers and then you’re training every day with them. Dean Lewington and Richard Keogh when he was here, they were both a big help to me in my development and were always giving me advice and little bits of information to improve my game.

“With Russ, ever since he was a player here, he was always giving me advice and telling me where I can improve and what I’m doing well. It’s great to be a part of and really nice to learn from these guys."
