Often when you think of Pre-Season the first thing that comes to mind is endless running sessions. Russell Martin, however, is eager to get the footballs out as quick as possible and work on his principles.
The shift in Pre-Season is one welcomed by Zak Jules, who says he’s enjoying the tactical work and disguised running Martin and Co and incorporated into their sessions.
“It’s the total opposite to normal pre-seasons, it isn’t just running,” Jules told the local media last week. “Russ wants to get work into us tactically from day one so that’s been good to have a different sort of pre-season.
“It’s been tough, pre-season is never really easy. I’m enjoying the hard work, we have a good spirit in the group. It’s been tough, but very enjoyable.”
The defence at Stadium MK has been relatively untouched with the core of Martin’s backline all remaining at MK1 over the Summer. Jules noted the importance of having continuity heading into the new season and how important Dean Lewington has been for his career.
“It’s always nice to be familiar with your defence, it keeps that element of consistency. The defence have built a relationship - that’s something that can only be positive for us going forwards.
“Deano has been through it all, he’s had all kinds of experiences, he’s never shy in giving me advice, he’s not the type to keep it all to himself he wants to help everyone out.
“His words of wisdom show how good of a person he is and how good of a person he is to have about the place.”
