O'Hora: Playing with a smile on my face

Defender back in action after last season's injury...

22 July 2021

Warren O’Hora has been playing with a big smile on his face this pre-season.

The Irishman has returned to action following the injury which kept him sidelined for the final month of last term. He played 60 minutes against Maidenhead United last weekend and backed that up with another hour in the friendly with Coventry City on Wednesday.

“I was playing with a smile on my face,” O’Hora told iFollow MK Dons in an exclusive interview from the Club’s training base at St. George’s Park.

“You don’t know what to expect when you’ve been out for a bit of time. I just wanted it to go smoothly but the way we play means we are out of our comfort zone quite a lot and we have to do things with 100 per cent intensity.

“That’s what we did (against Maidenhead) and I got 60 good minutes in. I felt it the next day but I really enjoyed.”

O’Hora continued: “I feel fitter and stronger (from the rehab). Naturally that’s going to happen if you get your head down and spend time in the gym.

“My summer was a bit different to most of the players. I was unfortunate to get injured at the end of last season which meant I was in all summer trying to get fit for the season coming.

“I learnt a lot about the determination it takes to keep going. It could have been easy to make an excuse over the summer about wanting to go back and see my family or go on holiday. It takes you to sit back and realise that this is what it’s going to take.

“There were a lot of sleepless nights when the injury first happened, sitting in bed hoping it wouldn’t be a long one. It was a long enough – it turned out to be three months! You learn how much you want it and how much you want to come back stronger and injury free.

“All the staff have been brilliant with me to get this injury right, and now I’m feeling strong. We’ll just go from here and continue to take it day-by-day and game-by-game.”
