Matt’s delight after sealing long-awaited Dons move

Midfielder excited for Stadium MK switch...

25 January 2021

Matt O’Riley has been training with MK Dons since the start of the season and has finally been able to put pen-to-paper on his move to Stadium MK.

The 20-year-old joined up with Russell Martin’s side back in August initially to stay fit, however, it quickly became apparent to both parties that a permanent move would suit both O’Riley and Martin.

The Midfielder has shown throughout the formative years of his career that he loves to get on the ball and play, and comes from a club in Fulham, that share a similar philosophy to the one Martin has implemented at Stadium MK.

Having joined MK Dons over the weekend, O’Riley spoke of his delight as he’s finally able to call Stadium MK, home.

“I’m really happy to sign here,” O’Riley told iFollow MK Dons. “I’ve been here for about six months and I’ve loved every minute. It’s a great style of football, with a fantastic manager, and a really good group of players – I’m really excited.

“The style is ideal for me, I was staying sharp and after two months I thought to myself that I love it here and thought it could be possible that I’d stay. I’m really pleased with my decision and happy to be an MK Dons player.

“It’s going to be fun – it’s my style of football and probably the perfect place for me to play. We’re so fluid in what we do, there isn’t any pressure, Russ wants us to play all the same and that’s what I want to do. It’s very similar to Fulham, I’ve come from a team that wants to play as well so it’s been a good transition. I love the style here, I’ll be honest, I love it here. I hope I can make an impact.”

The uniqueness of O’Riley’s situation means that despite him being a new arrival, he already knows the dressing room and the coaching staff. Although he’s not played a game of football for a while, the former Fulham man feels he’s raring to go.

“I already feel like a player. I’ve been doing my own gym programme, I’ve been wearing a GPS Vest in training – so I’ve felt like I’m part of it. I’m now properly part of the team, and I’m really happy with it.

“I was in the changing room for the last game so I’ve been here for the last few, and I’ve watched a few on iFollow. It’s been good being around it for the last few months so I can taste the atmosphere. I know the players well, I know how everyone plays and what they expect from me – it’s pretty helpful.

“It’s been too long for my liking without a game. I’ve been fit, it’s frustrating in that aspect, but I’m just so excited to play and I can’t wait for my debut.”
