Mason wants more after Tuesday’s showing

Striker looking to contribute with goals and assists...

Joe Mason netted a 28-minute hat-trick on Tuesday evening as MK Dons overcame Fleetwood Town 3-1 – he says he wants to score more goals for Russell Martin’s side.

It was the perfect first-half showing from the 29-year-old found the back of the net three times in less than half an hour to set the Dons up for all three points.

Both Russell Martin and Luke Williams have spoken highly of Mason and their admiration for his game in recent weeks, faith that was repaid by the striker on Tuesday evening.

“It has been a while since my last goal, and they've all come along tonight,” Mason told iFollow MK Dons. “It has given me a lot of confidence going forwards, but to be honest I'm over the moon to help the team out and get the result.

“I wasn't chasing it, but I was confident if I got another chance I'd take it. It was in my head to get a hat-trick when the second one went in so early. I want to keep building personally and helping the team.

“Russ and Luke have been great for me. It would have been easy for them not to show me any faith after the injuries I've had, and I've not really performed to the levels I'd have liked. I'm trying to finish the season strong, and if I'm doing my job, we'll finish higher up the table.”

Russell Martin admitted in his post-match press conference he was not happy with the second-half performance. Such is the high standards he sets as Manager, Mason admits he was also frustrated with the Dons showing after the break.

“We're not happy with the second half – it was way off that first half. We got a bit complacent which isn't good enough. We'll put it right for next Tuesday, hopefully, it won't happen again.”

Finally, Mason finished with a thank you to everyone who has stuck by him at MK Dons, from the Medical Department through to the Coaching Staff.

“There are so many people who deserve thanks for what has happened. The medical team have been great, Russ has been patient and I hope I can stay fit and keep helping the team.”
