Mase ready to kick on

8 January 2021

It’s been a frustrating season for Joe Mason as his campaign has been halted by injuries, however, the striker feels he’s ready to put his setbacks behind him and contribute with goals and assists for Russell Martin’s side.

Having featured in each of MK Dons’ last three fixtures, Mason is hoping he’s back to his best.  The 29-year-old has become a favourite of Russell Martin’s who praised his performances earlier this week.

Speaking to the media, Mason noted how the past 12-months have been difficult mentally, but feels he’s now ready to show his abilities.

“It’s been a frustrating season,” Mason told the local media. “I worked hard to get my fitness back up and I felt good in pre-season. It’s very frustrating and annoying but I’m thankful now that I’m over that and looking forward.

“It sounds simple but I’ve found it difficult the last year or so. I just want to play football on a regular basis and perform to the level that I know I can.

"The injury side has been very tough because since I’ve been here I’ve had a few injuries that have been the hardest thing as I’ve not had the chance to get going. Covid has been really tough on a personal level not seeing family. It’s been a bad year, hopefully, there is better times to come for everyone.”

MK Dons will face Premier League opposition this Saturday as they travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley. Sean Dyche’s side currently sit 16th in the top-flight table, and it’s a test Joe Mason is excited about.

“It’s a good tie for us, it’ll be a tough game for us up there but we are all excited and it’s a game we can enjoy. We are confident in house that we can cause an upset and we wouldn’t be surprised if we did.

“We’ve got to crack on now and try to find more consistency in our game, we’re dominating games but haven’t been getting the results we want or deserve. It’s about turning performances into wins and having a really strong finish.”
