Dons hoping to bolster in January

The Transfer Window re-opened last Friday...

4 January 2021

Russell Martin says MK Dons are looking to strengthen in a 'couple of areas' during the January Transfer Window.

From this past Friday, through to the end of the month, EFL clubs are permitted to buy and sell players once again, which provides Martin an opportunity to bolster his squad ahead of the second half of the 2020/21 season.

“We’re really focused on that,” the boss said in his exclusive interview with iFollow MK Dons, which can be watched for FREE.

“I can’t say how many signings we’ll make or how many people are going to leave, if any, but we’re getting ready for a lot of change and we’re equally getting ready for not very much.

“Definitely, we’d like to strengthen a couple of areas and we’ve highlighted the players we want in those positions. We’re trying really hard to get those and get those as early as possible.

“January isn’t easy, though. I remember listening to managers say all the time about how difficult the January window is. There’s a lot of conversation that goes on and a lot of that conversation ultimately proves fruitless.

“Still, we’ll continue to spend that time talking to people, watching players and getting character references because if someone does come through the door then we know we’ve done everything possible to make sure it’s the right signing for this Club and this team.

“I hope, when the window shuts, that we’ve been able to add one or two players who will be really key to us turning some of the performances we’ve had into wins. Fingers crossed we can do the business we want to do because, if we do, it will really help us.”
