Harry Darling believes Russell Martin’s possession-based, high-intensity football is a style that suits his abilities.
The 21-year-old arrived at Stadium MK on Friday from Cambridge United and says the minute he knew MK Dons wanted to acquire his services – the move was a no brainer.
Russell Martin showed the young Defender how he’ll slot into his formation and the role he’ll play in moving the Dons up the Sky Bet League One table – a meeting that has only wettened the appetite of Darling.
“As soon as I heard of the interest I wanted to get it over,” Darling told iFollow MK Dons in his maiden interview. “It’s a great club and I’ve only heard good things. I spoke with the Gaffer and he can only speak highly of the club – I’m excited to get going now.
“I think Russ’ football suits me, I’m a ball-playing centre back, but the main aim is to keep clean sheets if I can add that to my game then perfect. I do like to defend and that’s the main aim for me - anything on top of that is an added bonus.”
Martin made no secret that Darling was a player he had high admiration for – and a player that was top of his transfer targets. It’s high praise for Darling, who can’t wait to repay his new boss.
“As a player, you want the backing of the manager, he’s shown full confidence in me and wanted to get me here. Having his support sets me off on a good foot and I can’t wait to play for him.”
