Sam’s delight at Academy success

11 September 2020

Sam Nombe and David Kasumu both enjoyed a breakout season last year – with the former saying he can act as a bridge between the new academy players and senior leaders in the dressing room.

Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy win over Northampton Town was a notable one for the Dons Academy as every goal was either scored or assisted by an Academy Graduate.

Matty Sorinola provided the assist for Regan Poole’s goal, while John Freeman grabbed two assists in six-minutes for Sorinola and Sam Nombe.

Nombe noted how pleased he is to continue to see academy products thrive in the Dons first-team.

“I'm a stepping stone – I'm in the gap between the experienced players and the young players coming in.” Nombe told the local media.

“It's my responsibility to help them push on. We're all here trying to get into the team and progress as players.

“You can be on that journey alone, but I've come through with so many others who have gone on to different careers but to come through with David [Kasumu] and Callum [Brittain] is great.

“We came up as a group together, and we're helping each other. We've all been through the academy together, we've all had those same experiences and it's fantastic to have those people you've grown up with by your side."
