MK Dons Women begin their campaign as fans return to Stadium MK

21 September 2020

MK Dons Women were beat in their season opener in a match that saw fans return to Stadium MK.

The Dons played host to promotion favourites Watford FC Women as their FAWSL Southern Premier Division campaign got underway.

It was a nightmare start for MK Dons as their opposition took the lead within just two minutes. Sarah Wiltshire’s effort from the edge of the box beat Sansom and gave The Hornets the perfect start. 0-1.

Sansom was on hand shortly after to deny Fatuga-Dada’s low strike, before calmly claiming Wiltshire’s shot.

The Dons had their first chance of the game from a free-kick just outside the box, Rolandsen, however, was there to save.

Shortly after, Watford doubled their advantage as Wiltshire netted her second of the afternoon. It came via a good run from Fatuga-Dada, she picked out Wiltshire who converted from close range. 0-2.

Two became three within quick succession, as Vyse connected well with a volley from distance that found the back of the net. 0-3.

Wiltshire completed the perfect first-half as she scored her third goal of the encounter. She slotted past Sansom with composure after receiving the ball inside the box. 0-4.

The Dons, however, continued to look for a route back into the game. Chez Albert saw her strike end wide of the goal.  Mollie Coupar then went close, but her shot was met by Rolandsen.

The Watford keeper continued her impressive game when he bravely claimed a Pepper cross.

The half-time interval didn’t derail the Dons momentum either as they started the second-half on the front foot. Rush had the first chance following the break, but once again Rolandsen was equal to her attempt.

The Dons soon saw their dominance rewarded as they reduced the deficit minutes before the hour-mark. Albert produced a wonderful piece of skill to create space for the shot and beat Harries from outside the box. 1-4.

Charlie Bill’s side continued to dominate the clash but were unable to create any clear chances on goal.

Next up for MK Dons Women is Crawley Wasps on the 27th of September.
