Louis Thompson had to wait for his first competitive start since returning to MK Dons, so was delighted to get back on the pitch in midweek.
The Norwich City midfielder returned to Stadium MK on loan this summer but suffered an injury in pre-season which forced him to miss the start of the season.
Returning to action with 66 minutes in Tuesday’s win over Stevenage, Thompson is now focused on keeping fit and helping MK Dons get their Sky Bet League One campaign off and running.
“It felt like an age that I was out so it’s been a long time coming for me,” the 25-year-old said in an interview with iFollow MK Dons after the 3-2 victory in midweek.
“It was an injury I initially thought I could get back quite quickly from but I had to respect the healing process. It was frustrating because I felt like I was in a good place coming back for pre-season.
“It was good to get some minutes in the bank. I was a bit rough around the edges at times, but was just good to get back in the mix. Hopefully I can build on that now, moving forward.”
Tuesday was MK Dons’ first away win since September 2019 and with another road trip coming up on Saturday, Thompson hopes the sides can continue their form.
“We’ve got to carry on the momentum because winning can become a habit,” he added.
“It’s a long season and performance levels have been good. Bar the Crewe game, we’ve dominated the games and just been unfortunate with errors.
“Moving forwards, we need to iron out those errors and once we do that, I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
MK Dons will be looking to build on Tuesday's win when they take on Portmsouth at Fratton Park this Saturday.
