Keogh: Responsibility is on us

26 October 2020

Richard Keogh says the MK Dons players need to take responsibility for their recent results.

The Dons fell to a 1-0 defeat against Blackpool on Saturday afternoon condemning them to their second defeat in a week.

Despite dominating the game throughout, Sully Kaikai’s goal was enough to give The Tangerines all three points.

“There has to be a moment when the players have to take responsibility,” Keogh told the media following the full-time whistle. “That could be marking people in the box or something else. Our general play is very good, but we need to get the finer details correct - that's not through a lack of effort.

“We're defenders and we want to keep clean sheets, and it gives us a minimum of a point. We're confident in the way we go forward and that we'll score goals. As players, we have to take responsibility, we get all the information we need from the coaches, so when we cross the white line, we have to take responsibility and at the moment we're not doing that.

“It's costing us at the moment. I can't remember many shots on our goal again, but for whatever reason, that one chance they get, they're scoring at the moment - we have to stamp that out.”

Keogh insisted it’s not a result MK Dons will dwell on as they prepare for Tuesday’s clash against Wigan Athletic at Stadium MK.

“We are where we are, you might look at the way we play and think we shouldn't be there but the reality is we are. It's only down to us to change that. We've got two home games now, and our focus shifts to Tuesday. We have got to make sure we go into Tuesday and get a win.

“We try and win every game, for us now, it's about recovering right, not overanalysing the game and looking to win it on Tuesday.”
