Freeman on ‘surreal’ first-team experience

13 November 2020

John Freeman has labelled the start to professional career as surreal and thanked all those who played a part in helping him get to where he is today.

The Academy Graduate was handed his first professional career earlier this Summer having impressed Russell Martin in pre-season and in the Carabao Cup clash with Coventry City.

The Midfielder has now made five appearances this season registering two assists – as well as making his Sky Bet League One debut.

“Honestly, it’s a bit surreal,” Freeman told the local media this week. “You always have to work hard and everyone works hard here but to see it get valued and recognised and to get the opportunity is amazing.

“It’s been very exciting, so I’ve been keeping my emotions down and be as professional as I can. I try to get me first touch right and my first pass so I can grow into the game. If I can reward the manager with some goals and assists that would be nice.

“All the academy coaches have taught me to play numerous positions, so I’ve felt comfortable playing wherever I’ve been asked, and that’s a credit to the academy coaches. Personally, I like to be where the ball is so I like midfield. I like to be creative and dictate the tempo of the game.”
