Alex Gilbey has confirmed he is under contract with MK Dons beyond this season, after putting pen to paper on a new deal last term.

The midfielder was speaking on MKFM’s MK Dons Fans Forum alongside striker Rhys Healey and revealed in answer to a question that he is tied down to a deal with the Dons, despite reports that his deal was due to end at the end of the current campaign.

"I signed a contract under Paul Tisdale so I'm under contract now,” Gilbey confirmed.

The 25-year-old midfielder has made over 100 appearances for the Dons since arriving from Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee in August 2017.

In another answer on MKFM’s MK Dons Fans Forum, Gilbey admitted that his decision to move to Stadium MK almost three years ago was the one of the best he’s made so far in his career.

He said: “I played against the Club a number of times and I was always impressed by the facilities and the style of play. MK Dons always used to have good teams and play really good football.

“At the back of mind, I always thought I'd like to play here one day, so once the opportunity came up, I jumped at it. It's one of the best decisions I've made in my career so far."

Striker Healey had similar sentiments when asked about his decision to move to Stadium MK on a permanent basis last summer.

"When I came here last season, it took me two weeks to feel at home,” he said. “We had a great squad and most of it is still here. It was a no brainer to join here permanently."
