Russell Martin hopes the recent successes of Sam Nombe and David Kasumu will inspire the next generation of MK Dons players.
Nombe and Kasumu have enjoyed breakout campaigns at Stadium MK, featuring a combined 54 times for the first team and playing their part in 12 goals between them.
“This Club has proven over the years that if a player is good enough then they're old enough,” Martin said when he met with the media on Wednesday, in the build-up to Saturday’s Sky Bet League One encounter with Oxford United.
“Since we’ve come in, we've tried to re-connect with the Academy, working together with them to make sure we are all on the same page.
“I'm not asking them to all play in the same way as us, but to have players ready to come into the squad to play the game we want to play.”
He continued: “We want to continue to produce academy players and reward them as and when they deserve it to become first team players. That ethos has to continue.”
