MK Dons’ adaptability was on full display in last weekend’s draw with Rotherham United.
Russell Martin was forced into changing his side for the trip to the Sky Bet League One leaders, with Carlton Morris suspended and captain Dean Lewington unavailable following the birth of his daughter, Lottie.
“We had to do a lot of tweaking,” Martin said in his post-match press conference at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
“We had three players in new positions so we, naturally, looked a bit disjointed at the beginning. It just adds to how big the point is.
“We're still learning as a group. We're building momentum all the time and we're showing different sides of our game and different characteristics too.”
One of the most notable alterations saw Callum Brittain line up in an attacking position alongside Sam Nombe and Rhys Healey. Martin was pleased with the 21-year-old’s contribution in an unfamiliar spot.
“We worked on it during the week. He's one of our best footballers and his best work comes in the attacking half, so while we had Carlton out it made sense.
“He looked comfortable and I thought he put in a great shift. We didn't get him enough of the ball in the right areas but he certainly helped play a big part in getting us getting a valuable point.”
Russell Martin's MK Dons are back in Sky Bet League One action this weekend when they take on Doncaster Rovers at Stadium MK.
