Russell Martin has provided MK Dons supporters with the following message...
In normal circumstances, I would have written notes for today’s matchday programme ahead of our Sky Bet League One fixture with Gillingham. Given the situation we all find ourselves in, I felt it was as important as ever to provide you all with an update.
First and foremost, and on behalf of the players and staff here at Stadium MK, I hope that you, your families and friends are all keeping safe and well during this unprecedented and difficult time. Football plays an important part in many people’s lives but I think this period has given everyone some perspective and offered time to reflect on the most important things in life. Our health is certainly one of those and therefore we urge everyone to continue to follow the Government’s advice to stay safe and protect those around you.
As a Football Club, we are doing our bit to adhere to the guidance provided to us by our fantastic sports science and medical team as well as the football authorities. I am pleased to report that, to this point, our players and their families are well and healthy, and in line with the majority of EFL clubs, we have taken the decision to suspend training until April 6th.
That doesn’t mean the players aren’t working hard. Simon Crampton, Matt Willmott and their colleagues have implemented training and dietary regimes for them to complete at home, and they are in daily contact with our coaches and support staff. We have also provided them with some ideas and resources to maintain a positive mental health, which is extremely important at times like this. They have also been encouraged to try and develop in other areas that are important to performance and the culture we are creating here. All of this will help them maximise their time away from Stadium MK, which will ultimately help them as individuals but also us as a team and us as a club.
As coaches, we are continuing to work around the clock in preparation for our remaining fixtures, whenever they are to be played. We are analysing our upcoming opponents, planning future training sessions and maintain our preparations ahead of the next transfer window. No time is being wasted as we look to ensure we are ready to hit the ground running when things start to return to normal.
We cannot wait to get back to work and get back to playing football for you here at Stadium MK. Until then, stay safe and well – we will see you soon.
Come on you Dons!
