#OnThisDay: Healey becomes a Don

A year to the day since the striker joined on a permanent basis...

16 July 2020

On this day last year, MK Dons secured the permanent signing of Rhys Healey from Cardiff City.

The striker spent time on loan at Stadium MK during the 2018/19 season, scoring nine goals in 21 games to help fire the Dons to promotion to Sky Bet League One.

Healey found the net in his first game as a permanent MK Dons player – a stoppage-time winner in the 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town in August.

The 25-year-old scored twice more before suffering a thigh injury in September which would keep him on the sidelines until Boxing Day.

Netting on his return to action in the 2-2 draw with Southend United, Healey enjoyed a simply stunning second-half of the season, registering nine goals in just 15 games including two match-winners and four equalisers.

His performances were recognised by his teammates following the curtailment of the campaign, as he voted Players’ Player of the Year for 2019/20.
