Russell Martin insists MK Dons will be approaching tonight's Leasing.com Trophy with the same desire to win as they would any other fixture.

The Dons travel to Rodney Parade this evening looking to progress through to the Last 16 of the competition and move to within four games of a date at Wembley Stadium.

While there are expected to be changes made to Martin’s starting XI, the boss was adamant that the main focus for him and his squad is on winning the match.

“It’s an important game for us and we’ll be approaching it just as we have with all our games since taking over,” he said in his pre-match press conference ahead of tonight's encounter.

“It’s a competition that ultimately could end with a day at Wembley lifting a piece of silverware. We, as a club, have gone pretty strong in every single round, because it’s important to us.

“There has to be changes because there are a few players carrying niggles after the Christmas period. It was an intense and tough period and used a lot of the same players.

“We have real depth in our squad and this game is a chance for some players to come in and stake a claim. That said, it will still be a strong team and one that we believe can win the game, because, ultimately, we want to progress.”

He added: “It will be a difficult game. They are a strong side who are in good home form. We saw last year what a difficult team they are to play against, especially at their place. I’m looking forward to it. It will be a good challenge for us.”
