Regan looking forward to Newport County homecoming

7 January 2020

Having had two spells with Newport County, Regan Poole will return back to Rodney Parade tonight and says he’s excited to return back to where his career started.

Poole progressed through the youth ranks at Newport County before making his debut for the club aged just 16.

After racking up 15 Sky Bet League Two appearances during the formative years of his career, Poole moved to Manchester United aged 17.

The defender would return to The Exiles in January 2019 as he helped the Club reach the Sky Bet League Two play-off final.

Now, as part of Russell Martin’s MK Dons, Poole will return to his former club as the two sides battle it out in the Leasing.com Trophy.

“I’m looking forward – it’s always nice to go back to where it all started,” Poole told the local media ahead of the clash. “I had a successful loan spell there last season and I’m excited to go back.”

Rodney Parade has become somewhat of a fortress for Michael Flynn’s side, with the Welsh outfit losing just twice out from 13 home Sky Bet League Two fixtures this season.

“Everyone knows what it’s like to go to Rodney Parade and it’s a tough place to go! Last season we had a really strong home form there and went on a good run at home.

“They’ve had a dip in form recently, but that doesn’t mean anything. We need to go there, play out game, and see what happens.

“In the last couple of games we’ve looked really strong. We’re looking to carry that on, and while we’ve looked good at home – we need to pick up our away form.”
