Houghton: We need to make the most of home matches

Midfielder targeting points in back-to-back home matches coming up...

21 January 2020

After failing to pick up points last Saturday at Stadium MK, Jordan Houghton says MK Dons must make the most of next week’s back-to-back home games.

The Dons, who sit one place and three points above the bottom three in Sky Bet League One, welcome Rochdale and Wycombe Wanderers to Milton Keynes next week and Houghton believes it’s vital that the team come away from both matches will something to show for it.

“With these home games coming up, we need to pick up points,” Houghton said after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland.

“It was frustrating to come away from the last two games with nothing but we have to pick ourselves up.

“We've got some time now to get some good training in before Rochdale. We want to make this place like a fortress, if we can.”

Reflecting on the loss to the Black Cats, Houghton said: “It's disappointing to come away with nothing, especially after the first-half performance

“They're a top side, a big club and are going for promotion but we came into the game and controlled it. We played well and we created a few half chances which on another day might have gone in.

“The second half was frustrating. The game became more end-to-end, which we didn't want. We wanted to control the games. We could have been a lot better playing out and we could have been braver.

“It shows how far we've come in the short space of time under Russ, though. We're matching, if not bettering, promotion-chasing teams. It's just frustrating not to come away with anything.”
