Familiar faces and attractive style key to Louis’ move

23 January 2020

Arriving at a new club and adjusting to a style of play can sometimes be a daunting task for new players, but Louis Thompson says knowing a number of players and staff will help his integration into the squad.

Having joined MK Dons on loan from Norwich, Thompson won’t need long to adjust to his new surroundings with plenty of recognisable faces welcoming the midfielder to Stadium MK.

The 25-year-old struck up a close friendship with Carlton Morris during the duos time at Norwich City, while Ben Gladwin played alongside Thompson at Swindon Town a few years ago.

Ryan Harley was also a part of that Robins side,  while Luke Williams was Assistant Manager at the County Ground during Thompson’s stint in Wiltshire.

“I want to knuckle down straight away,” Thompson told iFollow MK Dons in his maiden interview with the club. “I think knowing a number of people will help that and I hope it’ll be pretty seamless getting to know the rest of the dressing room.

“I’m good friends with Carlton [Morris] and have worked with Luke [Williams] previously and I know Ryan Harley, Ben Gladwin and Conor McGrandles as well.

“It’s a great group of players and I don’t think the table really justifies the squad that we have here. Hopefully, that’ll improve in time, there’s a lot of games left in the season and you’re starting to see that progression each game.

“It’s our job now to transform that into wins and pick up some valuable points.”

Thompson, who also knows Manager Russell Martin from his time at Norwich City, noted that the possession-based style of football is something he’s accustomed to.

“I play a similar brand of football at Swindon and at Norwich, hopefully, I can take to it like a duck to water and help progress the team.

“When Russ took over we spoke a little bit. I wanted to come here as they we playing a great brand of football and I really wanted to be a part of that. I made contact with Russ and it worked for both parties – I’m happy it’s done now.”
