MK Dons moved nine points clear of the bottom three courtesy of Saturday’s win over Wycombe Wanderers – George Williams knows the side must continue to grind out similar results, in order to retain their Sky Bet League One status.
Williams & Co have 16 games left to make sure they will be playing in the third tier of English football next season, and will require more home victories, such as the two last week at Stadium MK, in order to do so.
“It was a good week,” Williams said after the 2-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers. “I was quite confident going into the week because of the way we are playing at the minute. We played really well in both games and it’s good to get six points.
“It’s starting to come together for us. We are starting to dominate teams here. Russell’s put his stamp on the team in terms of how he wants us to play and every week we are getting better and better at that.
“It’s all going well for us but we need to stay grounded, keep working and keep grinding out of results. Nothing else matters to us other than staying in the division – we need to keep focused on that.”
On the Wycombe win in particular, Williams noted: “We knew what was going to come from Wycombe. We knew it was going to be a tough game because they’re good at what they do.
“We knew if we matched them and played our football, we would have a chance of winning the game and we did that, deservedly.”
