Russell Martin says he spent last year picking the brains of Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth, who he faces this weekend at Stadium MK.

Martin and Ainsworth spent time on the same coaching course last year and the pair will put that knowledge to test on Saturday when their respective sides go head-to-head in a Sky Bet League One encounter.

“He’s a really good person,” Martin said in his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with the Chairboys.

“I was on a course with him last season and I used to pick his brain a lot. Everyone speaks really highly of him and I will always have huge respect for someone who has done as good a job as him over such a long period of time.

“It will be a good game on Saturday. They have exceeded everyone’s expectations this season. They are really good side and it will be a tough game for us. We’re looking forward to it.

“It’s an important home game for us. We’ve been good at home and we got a big win here on Tuesday. We need to build on that now and make sure we pick up three points this weekend.”
