Russ’ praise for Lincoln performance

MK Dons boss reflects on the 1-1 draw with Lincoln City at the LNER Stadium...

12 February 2020

Russell Martin couldn’t fault his side’s performance after their battling 1-1 draw with Lincoln City at the LNER Stadium.

Rhys Healey’s third-minute free-kick was cancelled out by a stunning Liam Bridcutt strike, as Martin’s men shared the spoils with the Imps on Tuesday night – a result which moves them up to 18th place in the Sky Bet League One and maintains their three point gap over the bottom three.

“I was delighted with our performance,” Martin said in his post-match press conference after the draw in Lincolnshire.

“Coming to a tough place away, in tough conditions, on a difficult pitch, and I'm a little disappointed not to have won.

“I spoke to the players how important it was to start quickly. I have a lot of respect for the manager and what he's trying to do but they are a team in transition and they've got that same anxiety that we had when we first started. I wanted us to pray on that and we started excellently.

“It's just a shame we conceded when we did because, at that point, we were really in control. If we could have rode that out early on it would have been different game.

“Those first 20 minutes and those last 20 minutes were us. That's what we need to be, that’s our identity - aggressive, intense and controlled.

“We limited them to very little after their goal and we got better as the game went on. We were the better team over the course of the game, and we had three or four chances to win it at the end.”

He added: “It's four unbeaten and eight points from 12, which is two points per game. I'm really proud of them for that.”
