Gilbs disappointed following Pompey defeat

27 February 2020

Alex Gilbey says MK Dons need to remain positive following Tuesday’s defeat as he praises the work Russell Martin and his staff are doing at Stadium MK.

Gilbey equalised for the Dons on the stroke of half-time, however, goals from John Marquis and Marcus Harness secured all three points for Kenny Jackett’s side.

The midfielder also noted that it shows how far the Dons have progressed in recent months as the overriding feeling following the defeat at Fratton Park was one of disappointment.

“We've shown we're more than good enough to compete with teams like this,” Gilbey told the local media following the clash. “It shows how far we've come that we're coming here and we're disappointed that we've lost.

“We weren't quite good enough tonight, we conceded some really poor goals – it’s a shame but we have another game to look this Saturday.

“They took their chances well - I should have scored a couple too - it's a shame to leave with nothing but it's one of those things.

“We have to stay positive, we're still in a good place, it's a long-term project, we’re still learning under Russ and Luke - we have to stick with it.”
